Here's the before shot of the dress, just a plain black floor length number:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TLc5hXtZkH6LJjET9sDyg_Vz-3YJhP-0TKxD2lgnW3eDlOr9Jx8IYlFZWFcv8WUW4BRqLZo0ccqyxwLmmyIe_MzBnm8q3yW-RCac_sZelF9cHJf852qw-ASNJP2Bwo4V-L8c50gSXzJT/s1600/IMG_0196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TLc5hXtZkH6LJjET9sDyg_Vz-3YJhP-0TKxD2lgnW3eDlOr9Jx8IYlFZWFcv8WUW4BRqLZo0ccqyxwLmmyIe_MzBnm8q3yW-RCac_sZelF9cHJf852qw-ASNJP2Bwo4V-L8c50gSXzJT/s320/IMG_0196.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I saw a dress that I liked on a fashion website- it was a white strapless dress and had a black lace trim. Since I had some white lace to work with, I did the opposite color pattern and made my own version:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4dtmteHzXlZgbNkZhGejc8pioJN0JVjcKsNopV0fZJaI47CRomOvf3V9bFfv9C2gGA5nOs4N7QsmZmZ0wIU3_As_kRbSW9y67tl5KjekYDm8XVotsFpYGcha80XixJNSbBTEmOzbPFex9/s1600/IMG_0197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4dtmteHzXlZgbNkZhGejc8pioJN0JVjcKsNopV0fZJaI47CRomOvf3V9bFfv9C2gGA5nOs4N7QsmZmZ0wIU3_As_kRbSW9y67tl5KjekYDm8XVotsFpYGcha80XixJNSbBTEmOzbPFex9/s320/IMG_0197.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No idea why my necklaces went crazy!</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It was just a nice, simple black dress and I gave it a little flair with the lace trim. Very easy change!<br />

But school is owning all of my time right now. I found this dress a few weeks ago and thought it would make a cute dress for summer, which seems so far away right now what with the mountains of snow in Missouri.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

This June Cleaver esque dress was about 10 sizes too large and it came with a matching belt. I thought it would make a cute summer dress so I took off the collar and made some other adjustments:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8WWycsJMOoMlOoGIboXz2r9k32x2I0kLDGvMOfejTkPLm9qomllIROQP94jW784ejaTrl8ZCCe6mFLbjjc19iiv3gAYw8X9sDxmEsSYhzLd0IJblOIJpFPjUqsJKyyb-RGB5iuSL9hfz3/s1600/IMG_0194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8WWycsJMOoMlOoGIboXz2r9k32x2I0kLDGvMOfejTkPLm9qomllIROQP94jW784ejaTrl8ZCCe6mFLbjjc19iiv3gAYw8X9sDxmEsSYhzLd0IJblOIJpFPjUqsJKyyb-RGB5iuSL9hfz3/s320/IMG_0194.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The top part had some ribbing so I sewed around it to form the top part of the dress, then just took it in and shortened it!<br />

Finals, Christmas break, starting school and getting used to my new schedule all took my time away. But I have finally returned! Anyways, here is the latest re-creation:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv_12BkbassCZ1vmaNZ3Y98X9-3rVf7jRv7Q8T3nMeZ5w40DzRjYJJzORBZej1v9QqfBkA8nphRa-5aBTYxpAGlfqvwkaGA9E0Yh-R9ulGIkjdci4akG6L3RTcm6peTczoQYjKIIg2dyu/s1600/DSCN7999.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv_12BkbassCZ1vmaNZ3Y98X9-3rVf7jRv7Q8T3nMeZ5w40DzRjYJJzORBZej1v9QqfBkA8nphRa-5aBTYxpAGlfqvwkaGA9E0Yh-R9ulGIkjdci4akG6L3RTcm6peTczoQYjKIIg2dyu/s320/DSCN7999.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I felt like Anne of Green Gables in this, what with the huge puffed sleeves. This thing had 2 shoulder pads in each puff. 2! It actually took me awhile to decide what to do with it. Close up of the fabric:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The label is "All That Jazz". Chicago anyone? </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I liked the floral and the scalloped neck line, but as a dress it was just too much! So here's what I did to it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu-fMfUkiGvRP1nemZ2t9EV3b34rElUddsuFncrOFEcd6VfxVXzlQE0AW1fKMj9a6caS7kfU1b3AMBoXHL2No1HV-gjXeeaR7kBN1q_sosXMIX5Rmhg-jjv3FQMtUADdzPfwHKQNxk02TQ/s1600/DSCN8010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu-fMfUkiGvRP1nemZ2t9EV3b34rElUddsuFncrOFEcd6VfxVXzlQE0AW1fKMj9a6caS7kfU1b3AMBoXHL2No1HV-gjXeeaR7kBN1q_sosXMIX5Rmhg-jjv3FQMtUADdzPfwHKQNxk02TQ/s320/DSCN8010.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I took out the shoulder pads and shortened it into a jacket- much better and it only took me maybe 20 minutes!<br />

<br />
It was a size 16... a little big for me. All I did for this dress was to take it in and shorten it. I left it simple so that I could accessorize it for any occasion. Here's the final product paired with a Betsey Johnson necklace:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR_zTvyKoASd6BpAqtV9Wogsvv-E8_PZcrghYkED0p940j8ilBoaLSRBlIKqc-7WLeAJWcd5VZxOAebDnT27QIkZqnoAUOKwSzcesBAhryYtmIUkzmGbgpmUyu0Y7dJgQ1F_hhyae8wdbi/s1600/DSCN7940.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR_zTvyKoASd6BpAqtV9Wogsvv-E8_PZcrghYkED0p940j8ilBoaLSRBlIKqc-7WLeAJWcd5VZxOAebDnT27QIkZqnoAUOKwSzcesBAhryYtmIUkzmGbgpmUyu0Y7dJgQ1F_hhyae8wdbi/s320/DSCN7940.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

Since this dress had nothing to work around, I wanted to completely change it and make it an off the shoulder dress with ruffles. After taking it in and cutting it to how I wanted it, here is the final product<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was only after I bought it that I realized it was a petite sized dress- thus why I can't really put my arms down in the picture:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNmxgQyyZmOMWaD-vCMl3jd_kGNnq5xP0uXVulXPBLsCw0e_3OSxx-PRdkwabvDRckndmcmFT8766JqYzRFXndbsOILl9VRzKpTpB_EleRMcejqA3CaEQalJ8yMa1z-PeBVZdpHu_f-tk0/s1600/DSCN7913.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNmxgQyyZmOMWaD-vCMl3jd_kGNnq5xP0uXVulXPBLsCw0e_3OSxx-PRdkwabvDRckndmcmFT8766JqYzRFXndbsOILl9VRzKpTpB_EleRMcejqA3CaEQalJ8yMa1z-PeBVZdpHu_f-tk0/s320/DSCN7913.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
Knowing that I couldn't leave the top part of the dress as is, if I wanted to wear it, I cut off the top part and kept the long skirt, which I made into a strapless dress:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGx5vHTd81kvzY_kgmuAy8enil5bUtRS54eeCIdeTq4chqs9gx-5yfVzn8XXIZhFacyGQUQYt6J-FAy9r5P1Kxp45NANi2kLeJH-yBgO6RxZUocE8rF7VR34wRUGyMLhyphenhyphenGXZt5sXMjHWl6/s1600/DSCN7932.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGx5vHTd81kvzY_kgmuAy8enil5bUtRS54eeCIdeTq4chqs9gx-5yfVzn8XXIZhFacyGQUQYt6J-FAy9r5P1Kxp45NANi2kLeJH-yBgO6RxZUocE8rF7VR34wRUGyMLhyphenhyphenGXZt5sXMjHWl6/s320/DSCN7932.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some of the excess fabric to make an empire waist, although it's hard to tell from the picture. <br />

<br />
I knew that this dress would be cute with a cut out back. I got the inspiration from <a href="http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=BARL-WS14&c=Tops+-+Dressy&s=C&sc=Long+Sleeve&n=n&currency=USD&source=shopstyle">this shirt</a>:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzl9kDaCRs8mxT5U_8C62P0-5N76zTWxAsecHvS-gV7odMYJiRBYBGsD7FU5QxhuTKHDF0kYPXRAsW7dwbda2M03qRZo9STfFLL7Bf3r9EeoPWVb-Lmcr9Exh0hb-ZEcFnn8vEa05zM9Yc/s1600/BARL-WS14_V2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzl9kDaCRs8mxT5U_8C62P0-5N76zTWxAsecHvS-gV7odMYJiRBYBGsD7FU5QxhuTKHDF0kYPXRAsW7dwbda2M03qRZo9STfFLL7Bf3r9EeoPWVb-Lmcr9Exh0hb-ZEcFnn8vEa05zM9Yc/s320/BARL-WS14_V2.jpg" width="223" /></a></div>
<br />
Since the dress had a zipper down the back, this worked out well as a design! After making other adjustments, here is the final dress:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN8ct8q9cnaHmdD17e8JnxM54HP6HOhrgM6dUA_k972FY8Z0YpxId6hXA0OohA0u7lh5kFrAr6C6ki06Oj-6gAkmdszoV2-mz-saLuXw6nu8p0Ef4ndDxqCE7OJP-wL0-O4WUXNiIo-DML/s1600/DSCN7905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN8ct8q9cnaHmdD17e8JnxM54HP6HOhrgM6dUA_k972FY8Z0YpxId6hXA0OohA0u7lh5kFrAr6C6ki06Oj-6gAkmdszoV2-mz-saLuXw6nu8p0Ef4ndDxqCE7OJP-wL0-O4WUXNiIo-DML/s320/DSCN7905.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And the back:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a name='more'></a><br />
Scary, scary, scary. Shoulder pads (that were actually velcro-ed in) floor length, and a weird waist cinching. Since Christmas is coming up, and I have a dance on Saturday, I thought I'd go more formal with this one! I had a vintage rhinestone button that I knew would make a cute center for a flower:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMYL1AD_vukq9ppBqz-Idz3Lhib_oGtdeZ4uSgV849N_mQymKjefvEZiO6SxZzz9GnnsrJVCtK3xxJQzhEmC14AIoB1UA5yMxBxuokj813WTC5jHP_-5OV4vqjlNonwuinBfPjwWstJumz/s1600/DSCN7891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMYL1AD_vukq9ppBqz-Idz3Lhib_oGtdeZ4uSgV849N_mQymKjefvEZiO6SxZzz9GnnsrJVCtK3xxJQzhEmC14AIoB1UA5yMxBxuokj813WTC5jHP_-5OV4vqjlNonwuinBfPjwWstJumz/s320/DSCN7891.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The front of the dress had a few small holes down the front of it so I made a bunch of flowers with centers of either pearls or rhinestones:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Fax5EE0_Qklg9o2AjoDL15x4PW3ngfSJW0i-Q7d1GGYNYZn8BBMwBQsy2NZzxHdWnQ5XT46OLF7DII0e1We_jzLAuGN5oIRDd-a8OdKZnozp9nA8Ql6hIYbczewca4Wle-beN3GjRBWf/s1600/DSCN7901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Fax5EE0_Qklg9o2AjoDL15x4PW3ngfSJW0i-Q7d1GGYNYZn8BBMwBQsy2NZzxHdWnQ5XT46OLF7DII0e1We_jzLAuGN5oIRDd-a8OdKZnozp9nA8Ql6hIYbczewca4Wle-beN3GjRBWf/s320/DSCN7901.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After taking the sleeves off and making a ton of other alterations, here is the final product:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimcsaoQ3UX1q7mcCJY0EgkZXvVh7RVl0BFtZtulsdD2TW3PiSQrRHhih5hjBfKzYNuzyetEIel9gDj3j2bxBlI1qp00oBZRQbi6yboGP5MyiGGtIiqQVJNiCclpg_JjR7INPSi-issVEmL/s1600/DSCN7895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimcsaoQ3UX1q7mcCJY0EgkZXvVh7RVl0BFtZtulsdD2TW3PiSQrRHhih5hjBfKzYNuzyetEIel9gDj3j2bxBlI1qp00oBZRQbi6yboGP5MyiGGtIiqQVJNiCclpg_JjR7INPSi-issVEmL/s320/DSCN7895.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The black band was used to cover up the weird waist cinching from the original dress. I thought it would look cute with a bow in the back too, to make it more festive:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdKM8alPogc-BOc0MbR_MGuy9vlxUPoArB0O5xM6POfcgtqRH7-WKbETh9RVopX0r1QYuc780JH8pFUc2vFN6WvS7aM8WA2R8JJNCKFs0Z6KuLGJ9Eo_Exd4_SZZRsRG0w0cK3jQp_Qlmh/s1600/DSCN7889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdKM8alPogc-BOc0MbR_MGuy9vlxUPoArB0O5xM6POfcgtqRH7-WKbETh9RVopX0r1QYuc780JH8pFUc2vFN6WvS7aM8WA2R8JJNCKFs0Z6KuLGJ9Eo_Exd4_SZZRsRG0w0cK3jQp_Qlmh/s320/DSCN7889.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
But I can't decide if it should have the extra hanging down:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3j_uOQVQN85EjX7p4z_yAr1a_VRcEDspK0hPWvNet0td6ZQ35RfXSAx5zPYzo4VPBAKI8do-fqfKcgQEY-RZljb0gy6bujhotsomcYUuSsD24K6wjhsh0KaqbBNTSTSjT6E92EXc9kDv/s1600/DSCN7888.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3j_uOQVQN85EjX7p4z_yAr1a_VRcEDspK0hPWvNet0td6ZQ35RfXSAx5zPYzo4VPBAKI8do-fqfKcgQEY-RZljb0gy6bujhotsomcYUuSsD24K6wjhsh0KaqbBNTSTSjT6E92EXc9kDv/s320/DSCN7888.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0wtK62wLUuHIAf8MpaPGyGicPudFEks7gcFrB60E2nbB3HVpqvTznkgCMQi5qZY_sh5lyC9-rYcM3N2XlSIQfVlm15I_CrQ-RKuX7Tpsbwj3hZwsYSNQzGkb5JhZbq-KU6FTWaz5gRnDT/s1600/DSCN7867.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0wtK62wLUuHIAf8MpaPGyGicPudFEks7gcFrB60E2nbB3HVpqvTznkgCMQi5qZY_sh5lyC9-rYcM3N2XlSIQfVlm15I_CrQ-RKuX7Tpsbwj3hZwsYSNQzGkb5JhZbq-KU6FTWaz5gRnDT/s320/DSCN7867.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span id="goog_970313924"></span><span id="goog_970313925"></span>Here's a close up of the lace after I removed the fabric that was sewn behind it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA1kcQkim_jqLZb3coUqvkFU137spqBx8XDfvfHsn9VqMeDtJJ_1F870exg_wA7xwfUfup4baRjZFg3BjyHvtqU1RwtKGOvKkiUxr8S2UJHdw8sQgtsppCAD3rEAptDuDQx5GPwpCV7Y6p/s1600/DSCN7874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA1kcQkim_jqLZb3coUqvkFU137spqBx8XDfvfHsn9VqMeDtJJ_1F870exg_wA7xwfUfup4baRjZFg3BjyHvtqU1RwtKGOvKkiUxr8S2UJHdw8sQgtsppCAD3rEAptDuDQx5GPwpCV7Y6p/s320/DSCN7874.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a plan that the front, the section with the lace, would make a pretty back of the dress since it went too low to go in front.<br />
<br />
After I made it, I realized that the front of the dress needed something to jazz it up, so I made a silk peach flower to pin on:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxr8zAfV8eN7g49sdKIe5N90shIFMeLs5bmGWjNuOEGDy8VXBJrsNWuPyI54RcPVPQh0_CCw6t_Wp1tRMM7NtbmpMqT4QG7dzcui7uwT-bt0TNwHMLWY7jclT4RVT4-vyAMhIgNpvDwhid/s1600/DSCN7879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxr8zAfV8eN7g49sdKIe5N90shIFMeLs5bmGWjNuOEGDy8VXBJrsNWuPyI54RcPVPQh0_CCw6t_Wp1tRMM7NtbmpMqT4QG7dzcui7uwT-bt0TNwHMLWY7jclT4RVT4-vyAMhIgNpvDwhid/s320/DSCN7879.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After shortening it, removing the sleeves, taking it in, and changing the front of the dress by adding the v neck and cinching the straps, here is the final product:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTmR0CRRXn_d6mpwmEA9v7Cri0E_N8dIfickycu1aFL82-C-pFJFZMa9AUuTBq5J8nhE9kJ47Mz3CQfM8qYNqaztg_x1egQn9dalknf-4lTMNBevpBAca9HYTPQnexMUo1QaKxHMU2yH7/s1600/DSCN7868.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTmR0CRRXn_d6mpwmEA9v7Cri0E_N8dIfickycu1aFL82-C-pFJFZMa9AUuTBq5J8nhE9kJ47Mz3CQfM8qYNqaztg_x1egQn9dalknf-4lTMNBevpBAca9HYTPQnexMUo1QaKxHMU2yH7/s320/DSCN7868.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And the back with the lace:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAdK0gs7jNl23m2Rdf97IUPkBAAEQctsxMeslWGELVC-ewsvXvu75kj-otBse2XXNmlL3jeSPtmPKUk0az_9Wy2q61jSWCp5Mfxz63QuEv2C8dXtskBCdeWQKzPDLHg_1UBagtjC2MgrUB/s1600/DSCN7837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAdK0gs7jNl23m2Rdf97IUPkBAAEQctsxMeslWGELVC-ewsvXvu75kj-otBse2XXNmlL3jeSPtmPKUk0az_9Wy2q61jSWCp5Mfxz63QuEv2C8dXtskBCdeWQKzPDLHg_1UBagtjC2MgrUB/s320/DSCN7837.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I loved the color and the silky fabric- but the length, shoulder pads, and ruffle layer around the middle... not so much.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEb5Pv60S8iKRPdR3ZWEVt7g2bMIq4zjce9iRsYMygiQGpgLelyl4Gqdk01YUrzZ4YwhCXYETPm6asF-2EAkLCdYk3ZtJFdO2ccyQLTr2s-0y0wKHO5nFghAjEBAA9AaugtugWqOPhxpPl/s1600/DSCN7866.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEb5Pv60S8iKRPdR3ZWEVt7g2bMIq4zjce9iRsYMygiQGpgLelyl4Gqdk01YUrzZ4YwhCXYETPm6asF-2EAkLCdYk3ZtJFdO2ccyQLTr2s-0y0wKHO5nFghAjEBAA9AaugtugWqOPhxpPl/s320/DSCN7866.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I took off the sleeves, shortened it, and cut off the middle ruffle thing. Since it was cold out, I wore my boots, then added the belt to cinch the waist more. <br />

This dress was a no brainer for me. I knew the botom half could be made into a skirt, and the top half just took me awhile to decide on.<br />
<a name='more'></a>It was a silky fabric with big shoulder pads. The skirt had pleats in it and that's what made me want this dress- I knew it could be made into a nice skirt:<br />

<br />
<br />
That was the easy part. The top took me awhile to figure out what to do with it- it had a cowl neck so I made it into a business-y shirt that would go well under a blazer:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZs6xBbA3boCfGCM2ZMfqArTV_nHqFBFVsTd5JZV_vfLNzf6OdeAcxAekXBUqyvQm8VJBxwzVBfqG8mdlOtncfBBiDC2GUyFLGO-uZX8qhYO2p_AcAROFLLCUTMB_OqbjIqj3RgerZAQz5/s1600/DSCN7856.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZs6xBbA3boCfGCM2ZMfqArTV_nHqFBFVsTd5JZV_vfLNzf6OdeAcxAekXBUqyvQm8VJBxwzVBfqG8mdlOtncfBBiDC2GUyFLGO-uZX8qhYO2p_AcAROFLLCUTMB_OqbjIqj3RgerZAQz5/s320/DSCN7856.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't figure out how to make it less billowy in the front without ruining the whole thing so I left it like that.<br />

Yes it's way bright and scary as is, but I knew I could tame it down. It had huge shoulder pads and came with a matching belt.<br />
<br />

<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
I did a lot of work to this one just because it had so much fabric to get rid of- the sleeves, the length, the width, the neckline.... but it turned out well, I loved the final product:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Paired it with my black boots, belt, and cardigan and the flowers were definitely toned down. I loved it!<br />

I saw this dress in the store and knew exactly what to do to it! Only when I checked the label did I find out that it was originally a maternity dress... it had cords on the side to tie in back and buttons going down the front. <br />

When I saw this dress, I immediately loved the buttons- but the rest of it reminded me of a politician's dress from way back when.<br />

<br />
<br />
Huge shoulder pads, sleeves, and knee length....yikes. But I had an idea about what to make it into. I have a dress that's sleeveless with a rounded collar, so I used it as a template for this one. Final product...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

No longer a senator's outfit! The sleeves were cut off to form the dress into a racerback kind of top. After shortening it, I thought it was a great professional attire outfit.<br />

Since my awesome friend Ellie was getting dragged to thrift stores a lot with me (I take forever when looking around), she picked herself out a dress and I got to work on it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
It was too big and had some weird pockets with metal attachments on the front, which made it look more like an apron rather than a cute dress. So I took it in, took off the pockets, and then fitted the straps and other areas of the dress to her. Final product.....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
Now it's a nice business attire dress! I was excited that I got to try and make something for her, and also that she trusted me with it!Not What It Seamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11756635244014214956noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1681917412143788536.post-77152832346039989612010-11-22T14:19:00.000-08:002010-11-28T12:11:59.319-08:00More Flowers...I got this outfit on the same day as the brightly flowered one- but I did not realize it was a jumper!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqa8KPWQNHa1VdQbPWR2UWd63COUWG7dbpZYemyHe0v3MM-z4EKZh440ANNi2BW3bW3YAIXW2EoPa3fqsseLy26UU4rtPHuGAmpGzZy2plHMrq1mv3KveS1_2uNaQJB8KZ6WqtGuS-DGAh/s1600/75119_1325058168935_1305300230_31533317_3430111_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqa8KPWQNHa1VdQbPWR2UWd63COUWG7dbpZYemyHe0v3MM-z4EKZh440ANNi2BW3bW3YAIXW2EoPa3fqsseLy26UU4rtPHuGAmpGzZy2plHMrq1mv3KveS1_2uNaQJB8KZ6WqtGuS-DGAh/s320/75119_1325058168935_1305300230_31533317_3430111_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>I liked the blue flowers and it also had a square neckline with cute buttons, so I got it to work on. I wanted to make it kind of like the <a href="http://not-what-it-seams.blogspot.com/2010/11/flower-power.html">previous post's</a> shirt. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Didn't take a lot of sewing, just shortening it and taking it in! I still can't decide if it should be further made into a tank top kind of shirt....<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr_6QUbhcBNvFCi14i-Ag_NkqYL95KVbJKu2PQyVMhEAFD_T9QvoMhF8fvyvAgXoPqVWEY8abHASEluC2Lw45-iqZYZQ4LBv1iTvLJtA61IXZBLFfoZwtihCnVPW96BmY1HAzOvCZhjLMS/s1600/73996_1321963971582_1305300230_31526305_3536589_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr_6QUbhcBNvFCi14i-Ag_NkqYL95KVbJKu2PQyVMhEAFD_T9QvoMhF8fvyvAgXoPqVWEY8abHASEluC2Lw45-iqZYZQ4LBv1iTvLJtA61IXZBLFfoZwtihCnVPW96BmY1HAzOvCZhjLMS/s320/73996_1321963971582_1305300230_31526305_3536589_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I know, very scary looking as is. Shoulder pads, floor length, and a layer of extra fabric around the neck and the hip. But I knew what I wanted to do with it the moment I saw it!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Close up of the fabric:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It was too bright to be a dress so I went into making it a shirt! Gave it a v-neck and took it in a bit. I used my black belt to give it some definition and a more fitted look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I really liked this shirt, even though its way bright! <br />

It's not flannel, so no Brawny man outfit will be coming from this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkqN_wg8FCdvFRERFlj_ANLsd771eJ7tmH5piHNYOc8Zi6ND_9IiaQ5CLOrQjBKiGE8GW2Hctwh9Z1AnRbBF_4TJ0q-xU5EubwU_q0LNupruBpOBlhTIk6guY1X4P_vIz0w2Ehp5KC4wzx/s1600/73488_1321034788353_1305300230_31522904_5973038_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkqN_wg8FCdvFRERFlj_ANLsd771eJ7tmH5piHNYOc8Zi6ND_9IiaQ5CLOrQjBKiGE8GW2Hctwh9Z1AnRbBF_4TJ0q-xU5EubwU_q0LNupruBpOBlhTIk6guY1X4P_vIz0w2Ehp5KC4wzx/s320/73488_1321034788353_1305300230_31522904_5973038_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Long sleeved, almost floor length, and had shoulder pads. There's also some ribbing on the chest area. This one was easy enough to decide what to do with it:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOtqy_JLgJEwv1QDxz9IuDx7JHHyvOC7I4dFp86KQC9FDGgPEF3Mn7BPgx-7EMBXjnfUUqGfVDrZK3Ac9PockwMePHI6xIshNtf3iyQ4ye83G6E_KqxTVP-hDk9XysGIHppZecV-OaxBYP/s1600/71749_1321034828354_1305300230_31522905_990405_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOtqy_JLgJEwv1QDxz9IuDx7JHHyvOC7I4dFp86KQC9FDGgPEF3Mn7BPgx-7EMBXjnfUUqGfVDrZK3Ac9PockwMePHI6xIshNtf3iyQ4ye83G6E_KqxTVP-hDk9XysGIHppZecV-OaxBYP/s320/71749_1321034828354_1305300230_31522905_990405_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
After shortening it, taking it in, taking off the sleeve length, then giving it a v-neck, I liked the way it turned out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI_DbAgCXLcXQrtwNm8TMz9uMQLu09sMHXBC-5HvylHl-N3YXfq0uQk0NmL6m6pa72sVTXbACtW9jw4D1-a8VQsCRrMGy_Nzcg6pol_CcpvRhb6oTSwx-yQRB05MaNBKsRPm7lJ7ZM4vO/s1600/67605_1321034748352_1305300230_31522903_4148080_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI_DbAgCXLcXQrtwNm8TMz9uMQLu09sMHXBC-5HvylHl-N3YXfq0uQk0NmL6m6pa72sVTXbACtW9jw4D1-a8VQsCRrMGy_Nzcg6pol_CcpvRhb6oTSwx-yQRB05MaNBKsRPm7lJ7ZM4vO/s320/67605_1321034748352_1305300230_31522903_4148080_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
You can kind of see the ribbing on the front, but just barely. I love plaid so this was a fun project!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<a name='more'></a>It has buttons going all the way down the front and a collar. I liked the flowers on the dress so that was what drew me to it. This one took a bit of work actually, but here's the final product! Front view:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJJl6S9VthbHO5WJKADrHqrfC6SPiiTYn8hQKkCQSaSiG2A8CIh-4rpsMfvRfMynGzWQlpVGx_sTVy90WGAFln_h15illm2db20Bqur1Yi-Kuss8E4VGnRO0gqFb2i-abie05tThyphenhyphenVHEMf/s1600/40130_1321008907706_1305300230_31522840_2312533_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJJl6S9VthbHO5WJKADrHqrfC6SPiiTYn8hQKkCQSaSiG2A8CIh-4rpsMfvRfMynGzWQlpVGx_sTVy90WGAFln_h15illm2db20Bqur1Yi-Kuss8E4VGnRO0gqFb2i-abie05tThyphenhyphenVHEMf/s320/40130_1321008907706_1305300230_31522840_2312533_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I ended up turning the dress backwards and working on it. I shortened it, gave it a v-neck, and scrunched the straps. I like the back part of this dress:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwXat6VL-FSgKFbl_yGH-yPorFdaI8MVhmiFZG4eWIbeYxu5e1-QX_PnUqV-mk7AIB_eRAIUNZC67eHXVmScVmNptfq2nwhgioBRI6WCDlEMDk0dhkvWS-zOD1BicDIPgXJbSPg7GP9IoY/s1600/71990_1321008947707_1305300230_31522841_2524812_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwXat6VL-FSgKFbl_yGH-yPorFdaI8MVhmiFZG4eWIbeYxu5e1-QX_PnUqV-mk7AIB_eRAIUNZC67eHXVmScVmNptfq2nwhgioBRI6WCDlEMDk0dhkvWS-zOD1BicDIPgXJbSPg7GP9IoY/s320/71990_1321008947707_1305300230_31522841_2524812_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
The buttons are going down the back- Miss mary mack mack mack.... anyways... I took out the collar so that I could give the back a deep V. Paired with my trusty black belt and some black pumps, I liked the finished outfit.<br />

</a></div>
It had a black and brown tweed top. The vest was only attached at the shoulders, then would tie around the waist in the back. Add in the floor length black skirt bottom and shoulder pads and you've got yourself a scary elementary school teacher outfit!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
And the after:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I shortened the sleeves, brought up the hem, and took off the scary vest. Next, I took it in, then gave it a v-neck. After pairing it with a black belt and my favorite brown and black shoes I really liked the final product!<br />

I loved the idea of buying vintage dresses and recreating them into something modern and fashionable. It's become a bit of an obsession now, one that I definitely use as a procrastination device when avoiding my school work. I figured that it was time to start sharing my creations on something other than Facebook and get opinions and feedback. I'll upload all of my previous creations, then start adding my new additions. Hope everyone enjoys it!<br />

Here's a link to Marissa's New Dress a Day blog- it is amazing!!<br />
